What is Typica Coffee?

The world of Arabica coffee contains a rich tapestry of popular varieties,
but the very first and original variety is “Typica”. Although highly esteemed, this rare gem is not a staple in commercial cultivation due to its limited per-acre yield, demanding requirements for high-altitude conditions, and a penchant for cool climates, making other blended coffee varieties more favored in today’s coffee industry.

"Typica" coffee was introduced into Thailand in the year 2493 B.E. (1950 A.D.). During a royal visit to the highlands, H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great discovered that amongst all the local villagers’ coffee trees, only 2-3 trees bore the most exquisite and fully developed Typica coffee beans. This discovery sparked the Royal Initiative Project with a mission to cultivate and distribute Typica coffee seeds, culminating into vast coffee plantations with tens of thousands of thriving trees.

NIYA Coffee is a pure Typica coffee variety that thrives on the peaks of Doi Langka, Lampang Province. Grown naturally at an altitude of over 1,400+ meters above sea level, with meticulous care for the environment and incorporating Sufficiency Economy principles into a sustainable local community-driven business, NIYA Coffee delivers the rare and exquisite flavor of authentic Typica coffee.

Origins of NIYA Paya Meang Tea

NIYA Paya Maeng Tea is a variety of the well-known Assam Tea from India. Grown in cool, high-altitude forests "Paya Meang“ has a distinctive aroma and a richer, more intense taste.

Grown on Doi Lanka in the Lampang province, at an altitude of up to 1,400 meters above sea level under the shelter of large trees without the use of chemical fertilizers or pesticides.

Harvested by hand, our tea is made from leaves from only the topmost of the tea plant.

Tea leaves are only harvested once a year during April to ensure the highest quality, whereas regular tea producers may harvest up to four times a year.

Traditionally roasted on a large iron pan placed over firewood, using "hand-roasting" and "hand-rolling" techniques to achieve the finest aroma and flavor.

Fair trade purchasing policy to support the local Doi Lanka community, stimulating a sustainable, long-term source of income for the forest-dwelling villagers and the Muser hill tribe.
